Rock musician Kid Rock commended former President Donald Trump for his promise to remove taxes on tips should he be reelected, calling him “a genius.”

Trump made this campaign promise last week during a rally in Nevada, a state he lost to President Joe Biden in the 2020 electoral college. Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, explained that he is a bar owner himself who has spoken to other bar and restaurant owners, and called Trump’s promise “HUGE.”

“Most small buisness’s have all had challenges in staffing,” Kid Rock wrote on Truth Social. “This will solve so many problems for so many hard working Americans! Trump is a genius and for the working class! Biden is straight Hollywood!”

Kid Rock included a photo of a receipt he was given at a restaurant, on which he wrote, “a vote for Trump is a vote for no tax on tip!!” and gifted the waiter a $400 tip.

The musician also included a video of Trump speaking at a rally in Detroit, Michigan, on Saturday, in which he reiterated his promise to remove taxes on tips. Trump noted that Kid Rock had sent him a photo of his restaurant receipt, saying that the musician was “very smart” to recommend waiters to vote for him.

One problem with Trump’s promise, however, is that he would not have the power to influence taxation on tipped income in a presidential role. For this promise to be kept, it would be up to Congress to change laws on taxing tips; the former president’s campaign told the Washington Examiner that he would ask Congress to take this action.

Trump and Kid Rock have consistently been on good terms with each other, with the two even going to a UFC match together in November. Last weekend, Trump introduced Kid Rock to his concert via a video message, during which he praised Kid Rock as “one of the greatest entertainers of our time” and called the musician’s concert attendees “the true backbone of our great country.”
