The Las Vegas Raiders may have found their replacement for Josh Jacobs in the backfield, as they are reportedly signing another former NFL starting running back.

According to recent reports, former Vikings starting running back Alexander Mattison is signing with the Raiders. He will likely compete for the starting job with Las Vegas’s forth round pick, Zamir White.

According to a report from ProFootballTalk, Mattison is visiting the Raiders at the moment, and he does not plan to leave until the two sides have agreed to terms.

Mattison was the Vikings’ starting running back in 2023 after they allowed Dalvin Cook to walk in free agency. He had a disappointing season, however, recording just 700 rushing yards and zero rushing touchdowns in 16 games. He did manage to reel in 30 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns, but it’s well short of what the Vikings probably hoped for when they decided to roll with the 2019 third-overall pick as their lead back.

Alexander Mattison Set To Compete For Starter’s Role

Despite his limited production as the starting running back in Minnesota during the 2023 season, it’s expected that Mattison will compete with White for the number one spot in Vegas for the 2024 campaign.

Of course, there’s always the possibility that Vegas looks to add another running back to the competition before training camp rolls around. Unless they’re willing to add a veteran like Ezekiel Elliott, J.K. Dobbins or Clyde Edwards-Helaire, their only other option to add a reliable ball carrier will be through the NFL draft.

One thing is for sure: The Raiders’ offense in 2024 will be a different looking unit in 2024, especially after their changes under center.
