Allisha Gray Earned Over Half of Salary With WNBA All-Star Skills and 3-Point Wins
Allisha Gray of the Atlanta Dream was the big winner during the first night of WNBA All-Star festivities in Phoenix. Not only did she win the Skills Competition but Gray also took the 3-Point Contest as well. It was good timing for Allisha to become the first player to ever win both in the same night because this year through an Aflac sponsorship $55,000 was earmarked for the winner of each event. Which is why Gray probably had the reaction she did when sealing the victory over Jonquel Jones of the New York Liberty in their 3-Point showdown.
Gray’s salary for the season is listed at $185,000. When totaling the money for her wins and adding in the extra incentives that were given from the league itself, she will earn $115,150 in bonuses. Which is equal to about 62% of her entire salary. Not bad for a night’s work.
Allisha will also participate in the All-Star Game itself. Gray is averaging 15.5 points for Atlanta while shooting 36% from deep. She spoke about her two big victories after taking home the hardware and the dough, admitting she was a bit tired from the speed she moved with during the Skills Challenge but added this about the 3-Point event, “I was able to lock in because I knew another $55K was on the line.”
Lock in she did. However, Jones was just one shot away from winning the 3-Point Contest and Gray’s face upon seeing the final miss is destined to be a meme. A money one at that.
