The shattered relationship between Princes Harry and William seems to be irretrievably broken but there was someone who could have brought them back together, according to a royal expert

There appears to be no hope of a reunion between Prince William and his younger brother Harry, especially since the person who could have “sorted it all out” is no longer with us.

King Charles’ two sons Princes William and Harry have famously been estranged for some time now. Since Harry and his wife Meghan Markle left the royal family, they have aired their views publicly on the royal family and William came under fire from his younger brother in the infamous Oprah Winfrey interview, the couple’s Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir Spare.

Prince William is now believed to have completely cut ties with Harry and it is not known when they last saw each other. In his 60 Minutes interview in January 2023, Harry was asked if he speaks to William or texts. He replied: “Currently, no. But I look forward to… I look forward to us being able to find peace.” The interviewer pressed on how much time it had been, to which Harry added that it had been “a while”.

While there appears to be little hope of the siblings finding the peace Harry spoke of, there was one person who a royal expert believes could have brought them back together, but sadly it’s too late because they are no longer with us. Former BBC royal correspondent Jenny Bond thinks their late mother Princess Diana was the only person capable of reuniting the two men and that she would have been heartbroken at their ongoing dispute.

“I think she’d be distraught that the boys are still feuding,” she previously told GB News. “But I think somehow she’d have got them together and just sorted it all out.” Jennie went on to reveal that the younger of Diana’s sons is very much like his mother in terms of personality: “Harry is ‘the Spencer’ of the two of them. He is fiery, vulnerable, fragile. Very much in the way Diana was,” she said. “He is complex like Diana was. Likable. Loveable. It is difficult. He’s forging his own way much like his mother did. He is the troubled one of the two.” After Diana died in a car accident in Paris in 1997, her brother Earl Charles Spencer vowed to look after her treasured boys. Speaking at her funeral, Earl Spencer said Harry and William’s “blood family” would always protect them and “arm them spiritually and emotionally”.

While Harry no longer speaks to many of the royal family, he is still close to his mother’s side. Earl Spencer and he and Diana’s other sibling, Lady Jane Fellowes, both attended the Invictus Games anniversary service in May when friends and veterans joined the Prince and his family to commemorate 10 years of the tournament which he founded.

There were no members of the Royal family at the event which took place at St Paul’s Cathedral. King Charles was hosting a garden party at Buckingham Palace just a few miles away. Harry didn’t meet up with his father at all on his brief visit, which his spokesman said was due to his dad’s “full programme” of engagements.

William meanwhile is now thought to be focused on supporting his wife Kate Middleton and father as they both battle cancer. Royal expert and biographer Ingrid Seward spoke to the Mirror about how the future King likes to have stability in his life and that Harry was too much of a disruptive force.

“William is sensitive, he likes structure and has perseverance. He does not give up easily,” she revealed. “His relationship with brother Harry upset him more than he would care to admit. But he found it easier to cut ties rather than allow himself to be continually annoyed.” She also explained how his difficult year has shaped him as a man and made him mature: “The traumas of the past year have made him a stronger person. He has become the kind of man Diana always hoped he would be. Kind, considerate and able to take on whatever life throws at him.”
