Morgan Wallen made a surprise appearance at Whiskey Jam in Nashville on Monday evening (Aug. 9) and shared a memorable duet with his friend and fellow country superstar, Riley Green.
The singer/songwriters shared the stage for an acoustic duet of Green’s hit single, “I Wish Grandpas Never Died.” Seated on stools, the pair strummed their guitars as Green took lead on the verses. Wallen joined him on the emotional chorus singing, “I wish even cars had truck beds / Every road was named Copperhead/ And coolers never run out of cold Bud Light / I wish high school home teams never lost / And backroad-drinking kids never got caught / I wish the price of gas was low and cotton was high / I wish honky-tonks didn’t have no closing time / And I wish grandpas never died.”
Thousands of fans sang along from the crowd as Green and Wallen continued to belt out the touching lyrics.
Prior to joining Green for the impromptu duet, Wallen debuted a brand new track for the Whiskey Jam crowd.
“Y’all cool if I sing you a new song that I’m going to do with my buddy Ernest?” Wallen asked before sharing an acoustic performance of a song called “Flower Shop.”
“Well, y’all kind of knew this already but I love singing sad songs,” he continued. “It don’t matter if I’m the happiest person in the world, I just love riding around listening to sad songs. That’s what I’m going to sing tonight. This is a new one. I don’t know if y’all heard this or not but me and Ernest are doing this together, it’s called ‘Flower Shop.’”
