Fans are once again arguing LeBron James’ superiority over Michael Jordan after the Lakers forward became the first NBA player to score 39,000 points on Tuesday night.
James, 38, achieved the feat early against the Utah Jazz, leading fans to revisit the never-ending GOAT debate.
‘This is why LeBron is better than Michael Jordan,’ a fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
‘Imagine what his numbers will be after 10 more seasons,’ another fan speculated.
James became the NBA’s all-time leading scorer in February after surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387 points. The achievement has since added another layer to a debate that continues to separate the NBA fanbase.

‘No one will ever break his record when it’s all said and done,’ another fan said. ‘They will have to maintain excellence for 25 years.’
James only needed five points to set the record on Tuesday. He finished the night with 17 points, nine assists and seven rebounds as the Lakers blew out the Jazz, 131-99.
Tuesday’s game also moved James to seventh in the all-time list for three-pointers. James’ 2,290 three-pointes ties him with Vince Carter while trailing Damian Lillard’s 2,421.
Although James has proven his superiority in scoring, Jordan remains ahead of him in other aspects.

Jordan has six NBA Championships and five MVP awards while James has four of each. Jordan also has a perfect 6-0 NBA Finals record while James is 4-6 in his ten finals appearances.
James is in his 21st season since getting drafted in 2003. He currently averages 25.7 points per game as the Lakers remain one of the strongest contenders in the NBA.
Despite his age, James shows no signs of slowing down, admittedly wanting to play with both his sons in the league.
The Lakers have won their last three games and hold a 9-6 record this season. They are currently sixth in the Western Conference and will host the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night.
