Gibson has spent 14 years in the NBA and continues to deliver consistent numbers despite his advancing years.

The move coincides with an injury to Knicks center Mitchell Robinson that could rule him out for up to 12 weeks.

Mitchell underwent surgery on his left ankle earlier this week after suffering the injury against the Boston Celtics.

Gibson left the Knicks after an initial three-season spell in 2022.

And fans were delighted to see the New York native back at Madison Square Garden.

One fan responded to the signing on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Excited Taj Gibson is back.”

A second said: “That first Taj Gibson corner 3 is gonna hit so unbelievably hard.”

“Welcome back Taj!” a third wrote. “New York forever.”

Gibson was selected as the No. 26 overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls.

He was an instant hit with Bulls fans, starting 70 games in his debut season and being named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.

The 6-foot-9 star spent 8 seasons in Chicago before heading for spells with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves.

He joined the Knicks for the first time in 2019, starting 56 games that season and averaging 6.1 points per contest.

Gibson was a bench player for the Wizards in 2022 and now reunites with Thibodeau in the Big Apple.

The former USC Trojan has now played under Thibodeau four times in his career.

Gibson has signed a deal until the end of the 2023 season, per Yahoo.

Throughout his lengthy NBA career, the 38-year-old has earned $89,009,151 according to Spotrac.
