NFL forced to release statement defending itself after Taylor Swift backlash and Travis Kelce says they’re ‘overdoing’ it

Even Travis Kelce thinks the NFL has gone too far in fawning over Taylor Swift.

As a crazy story becomes even crazier, the biggest sports league in America was forced to release an official statement defending its coverage of Swift.

“We frequently change our bios and profile imagery based on what’s happening in and around our games, as well as culturally,” the NFL said Wednesday.

“The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has been a pop cultural moment we’ve leaned into in real time, as it’s an intersection of sport and entertainment, and we’ve seen an incredible amount of positivity around the sport.”

The NFL rarely releases statements defending itself.

The fact that the league felt the need to stand up for its constant coverage of Swift – which included a changed Instagram bio promoting her weekly attendance – is surreal.

Fans think they know why Swift turned up to watch Kelce with Hollywood A-listers

Travis Kelce says paparazzi are following him as Taylor Swift romance is revealed

Kelce recently said on his New Heights podcast that the league had been over the top in making Swift the center of attention during NFL games.

“I think they’re overdoing it a little bit for sure, especially my situation,” the Chiefs tight end said.

It comes a week after, Kelce claimed that paparazzi were shadowing him as his celebrity status grows.

And that was before Hollywood A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman followed Swift to watch a Kansas City-New York Jets game on Sunday Night Football.

“I’m on the rollercoaster of life. I’m noticing a few things,” Kelce said. “Paparazzi outside my house, s*** like that. For sure, 100 per cent – they all have British accents too – or something European.”

Yet Kelce also acknowledged that he had opened himself up to the glaring spotlight, which had long followed Swift and made the musician into one of the biggest entertainment names in the world.
