Noah Lyles Receives Clear Warning from NBA Legend Carmelo Anthony

Noah Lyles has taken several public shots at the NBA over the course of the last couple years.

The American sprinter first sparked controversy last year when he criticized the NBA for calling its league winner “world champions.” More recently, he called out Adidas for giving Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards a signature shoe before him.

Carmelo Anthony had a lot to say on this topic during the most recent episode of his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast

Anthony, an NBA and Olympic basketball legend, sent a clear warning to Lyles.

“Don’t burn those bridges, champ. Because once you burn those bridges, it’s hard to get over that,” he said. “… Leave it alone. Don’t even play around with that, Noah. I’m not saying I don’t hear what you’re saying, but don’t play around with that.”

Anthony said he fully supports Lyles and wants to help bring track and field to new heights. He suggested that Lyles should share the same attitude toward his fellow American athletes.

“Why do you keep shooting at the NBA? … You want to be the world champion, Olympic gold medalist. Fine, we support you 1,000%… We want to support you. I say we because I represent the NBA… Let’s do this together. Let’s support everyone. We’re in this together. When we’re over that water [at the Olympics], we support everybody,” Anthony said.

Lyles won gold in the 100 meter with a thrilling photo finish. He then finished bronze in the 200 meter after he was diagnosed with COVID two days prior. The 27-year-old sprinter then withdrew from the 4×100 relay.

Anthony cheered on the USA Basketball squad as they battled their way to yet another gold medal.
