Patrick Mahomes won his fifth ESPY Award on Thursday

Mahomes isn’t a stranger to winning ESPYs, with his win Thursday marking his fifth victory at the awards ceremony. The Kansas City Chiefs superstar has won the Best NFL Player ESPY Award thrice (2019, 2023, and 2024) and the Best Male Athlete ESPY Award twice (2023 and 2024).

Mahomes captured this year’s awards after leading the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl win of the Andy Reid-Patrick Mahomes era. The Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in an entertaining final that went to overtime, with Mahomes capturing his third finals MVP Award after yet another show-stealing performance.

What’s next for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs?

Mahomes and the Chiefs aim to become the first quarterback and team in history to win three consecutive Super Bowl trophies. The Chiefs won it all in 2023 and 2024, and they’re aiming to three-peat in 2025.

The Chiefs will have their work cut out as there’s a huge target on their backs. The franchise is in a stacked AFC Conference with contenders like the Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Houston Texans, and Miami Dolphins out to snatch their crown.

Then there’s the big three in the NFC: the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys. These teams have Super Bowl aspirations, and they’ll be out to end the Chiefs’ aim at making history.

However, Mahomes and the Chiefs remain the team to beat, and you simply cannot buy experience in professional sports. The Chiefs have multiple Super Bowl winners on their roster, and they will fancy their chances of making it three in a row.
