Patrick Mahomes is undeniably the best quarterback in the league. In just seven years after getting drafted, he has won three Super Bowls and is poised to become arguably the greatest player in the league’s history.
Mahomes spent three years at Texas Tech before getting drafted in 2017. He skipped his senior year to play in the NFL, and it was the best decision for him. In a recent video on the NFL’s account on X, the Chiefs quarterback was asked what his NIL deal would have looked like if it were there during his time in college.
Mahomes replied:
“It would have been a good amount of money, especially for Lubbock, Texas. If I would have been able to get NIL, I probably would have stayed for my senior year and who knows what the rest of my NFL history would have been?”
Although Patrick Mahomes was not the most touted quarterback prospect coming out of college, he still had a great career at Texas Tech. He played 32 games in three years and threw for 11,252 yards, 93 touchdowns, and 29 interceptions. He also rushed for 820 yards and 22 touchdowns on 308 carries.
Mahomes was inducted into the Texas Tech Ring of Honor two years ago.
A look at Patrick Mahomes’ NFL career
The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Patrick Mahomes with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. He sat behind Alex Smith during his rookie season and became the franchise’s starting quarterback in 2018.
He won the first MVP award of his career in his first season as the Chiefs quarterback, and he led his team to a Super Bowl win in his second season as the starter.
So far, Mahomes has won two MVPs, three Super Bowls, and three Super Bowl MVPs. He signed a 10-year, $450 million contract extension with the Chiefs after winning the Super Bowl in 2020.
The Chiefs superstar is the face of the league, and the rest of his career will be all about whether or not he will be able to win more Super Bowls than Tom Brady.
Mahomes and the Chiefs have won back-to-back Super Bowls and are motivated to become the first-ever team in the NFL’s history to win three straight Super Bowls.
