Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ father, Pat Mahomes Sr., is celebrating six months of sobriety. The news came almost a month after the former MLB star was arrested in Texas for driving with a suspended license.

Pat Mahomes Sr. is currently looking forward to a DWI trial, on the charges of drunk driving after his arrest on February 3. Amidst the legal battles surrounding his drinking problems, having completed six months without alcohol is an achievement.

“I would like to thank my God, wife, family and friends for 6 months on the sunny side of the road. I know it’s been hard getting to know sober Pat, but it’s well worth it. Trisha Mahomes, thanks for all you do,” Patrick Mahomes’ father wrote on Instagram.

In the Instagram post, Pat Mahomes Sr. attached a picture of himself with MLB legend Pete Rose.

In the snapshot, Rose could be seen looking up at Mahomes Sr., who’s standing next to him in the frame. The picture appears to be from the celebrity golf tournament in June, which both MLB stars attended.

Patrick Mahomes Sr’s DWI legal battle

Almost a week before the Super Bowl 2024, Patrick Mahomes’ father was busted in Texas on DWI charges. After going through multiple proceedings, the ex-MLB star is currently awaiting trial in his drunk-driving case.

The trial is set to begin on August 12 in Smith County, Texas. The stamp of confirmation on Patrick Mahomes Sr’s charges came on March 28, when he was officially indicted with the DWI charges.

Moreover, KLTV reported in June that Patrick Mahomes Sr. currently has a plea deal to consider. The deal comes with a 10-year probation period. But considering that the case is now going to a trial, the ex-MLB star might have rejected it.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. could be facing a 10-year sentence and a fine of up to $10,000 if the jury rules against him. The former MLB star has a history of DUI offenses and had also been sentenced to jail in 2019 for 40 days. The Chiefs quarterback hasn’t made any comments on his father’s case yet.

Patrick Mahomes Sr. is a father of four, with a retired career in MLB that comprises 11 long seasons. Just like his father, the Chiefs quarterback inherited the former MLB star’s passion for baseball and played on his high school team before making an impressive career in the NFL.
