Noah Lyles backed up all the talk at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a gold medal finish in the men’s 100m for the United States.

In an all-time epic finish, Lyles won his gold medal by 0.005 of a second over Jamaca’s Kishane Thompson. The 4th-8th place finishers posted the fastest times ever for the placements.

Lyles had faced some criticism for comments he made last year, confidently stating that he held the title of “world’s fastest man” after criticizing NBA champions for dubbing themselves ‘world champions’.

“You know what hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have ‘world champion’ on their head. World champion of what? The United States?”

Several NBA players responded to the quote, but Lyles put all the talk to rest after securing his gold medal finish. Some NBA and WNBA players offered their support to Lyles after he won the 100m.

The WNBA’s Michaela Onyenwere of the Chicago Sky took to X to offer her support for the gold medalist.

“I’m ngl, I love a cocky athlete that backs it up. 🤭,” Onyenwere tweeted.

Josh Hart of the New York Knicks also defended Noah Lyles.

“Lol na he an Olympic gold medalist. He can talk for life 😂,” Hart stated on X.

Team USA will look to prove Lyles wrong in the Olympics after going 3-0 in the group stage of play to start the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Team USA still has the chance to prove that the NBA is right to crown themselves as world champions with a gold medal on the line after rattling off three-straight wins in the group phase in Paris.

Team USA defeated Puerto Rico’s men’s national team thanks to an efficient 25-point performance from Anthony Edwards, who shot 11-15 from the field and cashed in on eight out of his nine three-point attempts.

Joel Embiid added 15 points, while LeBron James and Jayson Tatum each poured in 10 points.

Team USA advanced to the quarterfinals at the 2024 Paris Olympics where they will meet Brazil with their eyes set on yet another gold medal finish in basketball.
