Chicago Sky rookie forward Angel Reese continued the stellar start to WNBA career on Sunday afternoon by recording her 10th consecutive double-double, the longest single-season streak in league history.

Reese tallied her 10th point when she sank a free throw with 23 seconds to play in the Sky’s 70-62 loss to the Minnesota Lynx. In doing so, she moved past Candace Parker, who had recorded nine consecutive double-doubles during the 2015 season.

“Just proud of her. Proud of what she does,” Chicago coach Teresa Weatherspoon said. “She’s gonna continue to do what she does. That’s who she is. She’s gonna always come out and play hard and confident and give you everything that she has.”

Reese’s standout performance (10 points and 16 rebounds) was the latest in what has been an opening two months full of history. Earlier in June, she became the first rookie since A’ja Wilson in 2018 to record 25-plus points and 15-plus rebounds in a game.

Reese is the only Sky rookie in team history to record 20-plus points and 15-plus rebounds in a contest. She had joined Yolanda Griffith and Tina Charles as the only first-year WNBA players ever to put up 15-plus points, 10-plus defensive rebounds and 8-plus offensive rebounds in a single game as well.

Reese and fellow rookie Kamilla Cardoso have also become the first rookie duo since 1998 to record double-doubles in multiple games.

Chicago, however, dropped to 6-11 on the season after scoring only five points in the fourth quarter. Facing the Lynx, who have the WNBA’s top defense, the Sky shot only 2 of 23 in the game’s final 10 minutes. Minnesota moved to 14-4 with the victory.

There is more history Reese can make ahead of the upcoming All-Star break. Parker recorded 12 consecutive double-doubles spanning the end of the 2009 season and beginning of the 2010 season. Reese will have a chance to continue her streak Tuesday, when Chicago visits the Atlanta Dream.

“She’s the hardest person on herself,” Weatherspoon said. “Proud of what she’s doing and what she will continue to do.”
