Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter shared her thoughts on almost ending Angel Reese‘s double-double streak against the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday. The WNBA’s active double-double streak belongs to the Sky’s rookie as she continues to dominate the boards and score efficiently. However, Reese struggled to make shots in their recent win, which put her streak in jeopardy.
The former LSU star now has 14 straight double-doubles, which is a historical feat for any player. Reese has dominated the glass, which has become one of the reasons why fans have started to tune in to Chicago’s games.
As their game against the Dream almost ended, however, Carter had no clue that Reese needed a point to keep her streak alive. When she got the ball, the crowd got loud in the arena, which led her to give the ball to the rookie forward. The forward eventually knocked down free throws to give her 11 points and 13 rebounds.
After the game, Carter shared her thoughts on what went on during the sequence to keep Reese’s streak alive.
“I told my team when I got in the locker room, I’m glad you told me because I was ready to go coast to coast. … I didn’t know what was going on,” Carter said.
Reese has a chance to extend her streak to 15 as they play against the New York Liberty on Thursday.
Angel Reese is not focused on winning Rookie of the Year
Aside from Angel Reese’s double-double streak, the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year race is what fans are excited about. The battle is between Reese and Caitlin Clark, who have been rivals since their college days. Many have argued over which player is deserving of the award.
As for the players, Chicago’s forward isn’t focused on winning the individual award. According to her, helping her team to reach the postseason is her goal.
“I’m not thinking about Rookie of the Year,” Reese said. “I’m just thinking about being in the playoffs. Being able to be better than last year for this team. I came here just to win. Personal accolades are something I really don’t get into.”
With her ability to rack up double-doubles, there’s a chance that she could make it hard for Clark to win the award. Reese has also earned a spot on the All-Star team, which gives her more chance at winning the individual award.
