NFL Rumors: Harrison Butker in for payday with $20,275,000 Chiefs deal running out (Image credit: Imagn)
Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker appears to be in for a payday. Butker is entering the final year of his five-year $20,275,000 deal with the team. As one of the NFL’s best kickers, rumors have been rife on social media that the Chiefs are closing in on a new deal for Butker.
“Can you take me higher? The Kansas City #Chiefs will be making Creed Humphrey the highest paid Center in the coming weeks and kicker Harrison Butker will be getting a new deal too,” an X account tweeted.
Butker went 33-for-35 on field goals last regular season while going 38-for-38 on extra points. He also had an incredible record of 5-for-5 on field goals of 50+ yards and 7-for-7 on 40-49 field goals.
Where does Harrison Butker rank among NFL’s highest-paid kickers?
Harrison Butker is currently the 16th-highest-paid kicker in the NFL, but that might change soon. The highest-paid kickers in the NFL are Jake Elliott and Justin Tucker, making $6 million per season, while Butker is making $4.055 million this upcoming season. With Butker’s potential new contract, he could receive nearly a $2 million raise.
The other kickers set to make more than Butker in 2024 are Matt Gay, Graham Gano, Ka’imi Fairbairn, Dustin Hopkins, Jason Myers, Tyler Bass, Chris Boswell, Younghoe Koo, Daniel Carlson, Jason Sanders, Wil Lutz, Greg Zuerlein and Chase McLaughlin.
Entering 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs announced that Butker would continue handling kickoffs, despite the new changes and some talk that Kansas City might not use him in that role.
“Butker’s going to be our main kickoff guy. I mean, hands down,” Special teams coach Dave Toub said via reporter Jesse Newell. “Because he can move the ball and do a lot of different things. He’s our most talented kickoff guy.” [H/T Kansas City Star]
Butker was selected in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers out of Georgia Tech. However, he failed to make the roster and was signed to the Panthers’ practice squad. Just a couple of weeks into the season, Kansas City signed Butker away from Carolina.
Butker is 197-for-221 on field goals in his NFL career while being 309-for-327 on extra points. In the playoffs, Butker is 32-for-35 on field goals.
