WNBA Insider Points Out ‘Familial Ties’ of Indiana Fever’s Next Potential Coach

The Indiana Fever sent shockwaves throughout the WNBA after firing coach Christie Sides despite leading the team to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

With her exit, rumors have begun swirling that Indiana might seek Connecticut Sun coach Stephanie White as the replacement. She still has one year left in her contract with the Sun.

According to WNBA insider Chloe Peterson of IndyStar, the 47-year-old could be the right choice for the Fever because of her “ample experience.”

“White could be a perfect fit for Indiana, especially with better facilities, a surging team and the prospect of coaching Caitlin Clark—already one of the best players in the league,” Peterson wrote.

After her playing career, including suiting up for the Fever from 2000 to 2004, White spent time as an assistant coach in various colleges before landing the same gig with the Chicago Sky from 2007 to 2010.

She then served as an assistant coach of the Fever from 2011 to 2014 before being promoted to coach from 2015 to 2016, amassing a 37-31 win-loss card. She led the Fever to the WNBA Finals in her first season calling the shots.

Peterson pointed out that White’s familiarity with Indiana could also be another selling point.

“White has familial ties to Indiana, too,” Peterson added. “She is from West Lebanon and was Miss Basketball out of Seeger High School. She was a leader of the Purdue team that won the NCAA championship in 1999.”

The Fever are looking to capitalize on their momentum following their impressive campaign, with returning president Kelly Krauskopf already making bold changes.

Aside from White, Fever fans are suggesting that the team should also consider hiring Lisa Bluder, Caitlin Clark’s former coach at Iowa.
