When Taylor Swift went public with Travis Kelce at a Kansas City Chiefs game last year, she immediately cemented herself among the team’s loyal squad of WAGs.
And in the 12 months since debuting her romance with the American Football star, 34, the 14-time Grammy winner has formed a particularly close friendship with Britanny Mahomes – the wife of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, 28.
Throughout the season, Taylor was spotted at games cheering on her beau – often with Brittany by her side, usually in a matching outfit.
But Brittany, 29, who is currently pregnant with her third child, may be on the outs with Taylor, 34, after appearing to endorse Trump in the upcoming US election.
The question remains if the besties will appear side-by-side to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs as they take on the Baltimore Ravens in the first game of the season tonight.
Taylor will likely want to make a show of support for her Tight End boyfriend after a seemingly fake contract was shared online dubbing their relationship a ‘showmance’.
But will billionaire popstar – who shies away from controversy – be distancing herself from Brittany, who was already controversial among NFL fans?
The stars fans have urged her to stay away – with one taking to X, formerly Twitter to write: ‘Taylor if you hug Brittany Mahomes on national TV tomorrow I cannot defend you anymore!’
Another said: ‘F*** Brittany Mahomes and I hope Taylor drops her out of the friend circle’.
A third wrote: ‘I don’t want Taylor to be associated with someone who supports trump how is that a problem?’.
One joked: ‘Tree Paine, time to get to work,’ referring to Taylor’s publicist.
Taylor and Brittany quickly formed a friendship last year – with the pair posing for snaps together, heading for dinners at A-list joints and wearing matching clothes.
‘Even if things didn’t work out between Taylor and Travis, Taylor feels like her friendship with Brittany would continue no matter what,’ they added.
But politics may stand in the way of the pair. Taylor has previously endorsed Donald Trump’s rivals, while accusing him of ‘stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism,’, ‘feigning moral superiority’ and ‘threatening violence’.
But Brittany appears to be team Trump – with the former US President taking to Truth Social to thank the WAG for her support last night.
‘I want to thank beautiful Brittany Mahomes for so strongly defending me, and the fact that MAGA is the greatest and most powerful Political Movement in the History of our now Failing Country,’ he said.
Brittany all-but-confirmed her support for Donald Trump by recently liking posts on Instagram supporting the Republican Party.
The mother-of-two liked a reply from a follower which said: ‘TRUMP-VANCE 2024’.
She also liked another message of support after she incited fury for initially liking a post from Trump about the November election.
‘Glad to see you aren’t backing down,’ the comment that she liked said. ‘We are all entitled to our own opinions and shouldn’t be bullied into submission.’
She later re-posted a comment from preacher and author Shane Pruitt that appeared to be a response against backlash against her.
‘Contrary to the tone of the world today…’ the post begins. ‘You can disagree with someone, and still love them. You can have differing views, and still be kind.’
Taylor however has previously accused Trump of ‘gaslighting the American public,’ and treating the US ‘like an autocracy’.
Endorsing Biden and Harris in 2020, she wrote: ‘The change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included,’.
She also spoke out against the GOP in her 2019 documentary Miss Americana, while track Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince is a protest song about Trump.
The song features lines including: ‘American glory faded before me, now I’m feeling hopeless/ My team is losing, battered and bruising. I see the high fives between the bad guys’.
Later Swift sings: ‘I’m feeling helpless, the damsels are depressed. Boys will be boys then, where are the wise men? Darling, I’m scared,’.
Another song, Only the Young, which also features in the documentary, describes a figure – believed to be Trump – as ‘the big bad man and his big bad clan’.
Despite their apparent political differences, sources recently revealed to DailyMail.com that Taylor and Brittany specifically implemented measures to protect their friendship even as fans predicted a huge fallout after her support of Trump became public.
‘Taylor is not going to be written into this anti-Brittany narrative because they have made a pact to not discuss politics,’ sources said, adding that the pair would ‘respect that they have different views.’
The source claimed ‘Brittany knew better than to discuss politics’ at a recent party Taylor threw for Blake Lively at her Rhode Island mansion as she didn’t want to ‘risk confrontation over opposing views.’
‘It was an unspoken rule for everyone to avoid politics at Taylor’s home in Rhode Island,’ they said. ‘The topic was off limits.
‘It is not only Taylor who has not spoken out in strong support for either candidate, but Travis as well. They know how much influence they have.’
According to the insider, Taylor’s Eras Tour opened her eyes to the fact that she has millions of fans who don’t all share the same views, and she has learned to respect that.
‘She loves her fans and has sold out stadiums in Republican states as well as Democrat, and has performed in countries where communism is rampant,’ they continued.
‘They are brought together by their love of her music. If, and when, Taylor is ready to endorse a candidate she will. Right now is not the time for her to do so.’
Another source added: ‘Taylor deals with so many people in her career and life that are so different that she leads with love, if you are a good person, most likely you’ll get her respect.
‘Her and Brittany talk about other things and never politics, so Taylor isn’t going to let this be a deal breaker for a friendship.’
The two couples spend time together over the weekend with Swift back in the United States after four months of touring in Europe.
In an interview in 2019 with The Guardian, Swift said she supported Hilary Clinton over Trump in the 2016 election and accused Trump of treating the presidency like ‘an autocracy’.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick has never revealed which party he supports and told TIME magazine he does not plan to get involved in politics.
‘I don’t want to pressure anyone to vote for a certain president,’ he said.
‘I want people to use their voice, whoever they believe in. I want them to do the research.’
The Chiefs have been invited to the White House by President Biden the past two years to commemorate their Super Bowl victories in 2023 and 2024.
Mahomes and his teammates had been invited to the White House by Trump following their Super Bowl LIV but did not attend due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite their political differences, Brittany has well cemented herself into Taylor’s girl gang and has been seen hanging out with Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sophie Turner and also Hugh Jackman.
A source told TMZ last year that Brittany ‘hit it off’ with the Karma singer during the post-game party after the Chiefs vs. Bears game in Kansas City.
After the Chief beat the Bears, Brittany joined team members for a special dinner in celebration.
Last week, Brittany revealed how husband Patrick taught her to ignore social media trolls amid controversy over her public support of Donald Trump.
In an interview on the WHOOP podcast, Brittany has credited Patrick with helping her block out any criticism she receives online amid her growing fame.
‘He is very good at blocking people out so having him beside has helped,’ she said. ‘The main thing he always told me is to stop caring what people think – especially the people that don’t even know you.
‘I think social media used to get to me a lot. Now, it’s just like, honestly, I don’t give a f*** what people have to say about me anymore. And I think he has helped me get to that point.
‘I am strong in who I am. I am confident in who I am. I confident in mine and his relationship and I am confident in our lives. So why does what other people say have to matter at all?’
Brittany admits that she had to learn this from Patrick, who benefitted from being the son of a professional athlete in retired Minnesota Twins and New York Mets reliever Pat Mahomes Sr.
‘He is a lot better at it than I am, maybe because his dad played professional sports,’ she said. ‘I think he was around it and he understood it a lot more than I did.
‘So having him to help me get through it has helped a lot because he’s very good at managing those things.’
On Wednesday, Brittany liked comments on her latest Instagram post calling for Trump to win the election and supporting her for airing her views publicly.
Earlier this month, Taylor hinted that she will remain silent on subjects she believes might ‘provoke’ after her three shows in Vienna were abruptly cancelled due to a foiled terror attack.
‘Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows,’ she wrote on Instagram.
‘In cases like this one, ”silence” is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that.’
The 29-year-old’s romance with Mahomes dates all the way back to their high school days, before the Chiefs QB slowly emerged from the self-confessed ‘friend zone’ and took their relationship to the next level. Now, the couple are married with two children.
By the time they left high school, top football prospect Patrick was embarking on the start of his iconic career with college team Texas Tech. Brittany, meanwhile, headed 450 miles east to Texas-Tyler as an aspiring soccer player.
Despite not expecting to play collegiate soccer after leaving high school, Brittany soon did so for the Texas–Tyler Patriots, where she eventually became the first player to score three hattricks in both a season and a career in the program. She finished the campaign with four.
Her total of 78 points won (31 goals and 47 assists) and 111 shots on goal were each the second-most by a player in Texas-Tyler history, while her return of 40 points (18 goals and 22 assists) during her senior year in 2016 are program records.
Brittany graduated from Texas-Tyler with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, which would later play an integral part in one of her most successful business ventures.
After waving goodbye to college, Mahomes signed professional terms with Icelandic third-division club UMF Afturelding and moved to the Nordic Island in 2017. She scored two goals in five appearances during her only season with the team before being released upon the expiry of her contract.
She opened up on her decision to leave Afturelding and quit soccer four years later, admitting that her passion lies somewhere else.
‘I realized that you have to have a huge passion if you want to play soccer,’ she told Essentially Sports. ‘I found that my passion was in fitness and helping others.
‘Even through college and when I came back to America before I moved to Kansas City, I was that friend that all my friends, you know… “I would work out with Brittany because she could train me” – and so I decided to create an app home workout program.’
It was then when Mahomes turned to personal training, studying to become a Certified Fitness Trainer and eventually launching her own online workout service ‘Brittany Lynne Fitness’.
On the company’s website, she describes her fitness brand as focusing on ‘working hard, staying dedicated, not making excuses, and most of all, no BS’.
Brittany’s vast social-media following, which has increased to nearly two million on Instagram, helps her to promote the workout service while also carrying out a number of brand deals.
