4x WNBA champion disses Caitlin Clark’s ROTY contention contrasting her with Angel Reese (Image credit: Getty)
Caitlin Clark remains a hot topic in the WNBA even during the Olympic break, as the guard enjoys a well-deserved vacation after playing basketball for an entire year. As the Rookie of the Year award debate continues, four-time WNBA champion Sheryl Swoopes shared her thoughts on it.
On her “Queens of the Court” podcast with Jordan Robison, the Houston Comets legend made a case for Angel Reese, saying:
“I don’t know if Chicago is in the playoffs right now without Angel, right? Is Indiana in the playoffs right now without Caitlin? … When you look at the overall team, like the pieces that they have, without question, Indiana has better players than Chicago. From top to bottom.”
It is worth noting that Caitlin Clark is the top scorer for the Indiana Fever this season, while Angel Reese was the third-best for the Chicago Sky until Marina Mabrey was traded to the Connecticut Sun. Chennedy Carter leads the team with 16.4 points per game.
Moreover, Indiana had the No. 1 pick in the WNBA for two consecutive years, indicating they had the worst season last year and a poor roster to start this season.
Caitlin Clark awes fans with her playmaking prowess
Caitlin Clark didn’t have the best start to her WNBA career, but he got considerably better as the weeks went by. The Indiana Fever guard is now a strong candidate to win the Rookie of the Year award and a potential MVP candidate.
StatMamba shared that Clark has amassed more career assists than 75.4% of all WNBA players. She’s assisted teammates 213 times in her young career, showing how she evolved her game from being a shooter to a playmaker.
She became the first rookie to record a triple-double in WNBA history and the first Fever player to ever do it. Meanwhile, Angel Reese set the record for the most consecutive double-doubles with 15.
