Caitlin Clark’s outstanding rookie season in the WNBA drew the attention of prominent figures around the basketball world, including all-time great center Shaquille O’Neal.
O’Neal was vocal with opinion of Clark throughout her record-breaking Rookie of the Year campaign. And during a recent appearance on the Unapologetically Angel podcast with Angel Reese, he continued his praise for Clark.
O’Neal fully recognizes the uniqueness of what Clark has already been able to accomplish in her young WNBA career.
“She’s doing stuff we’ve never seen before,” Shaq told Reese.
O’Neal is right. Clark is doing plenty of things the WNBA world has never seen.
After breaking the all-time scoring records for both women’s and men’s NCAA basketball history, Clark was selected by the Indiana Fever with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
In her first WNBA season, Clark set the all-time league records for single-game assists (19) and assists in a single season (321). She also broke several other rookie and Fever franchise records.
Clark became the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double, notching two in her debut campaign.
“I’ve never seen someone do that on a consistent basis,” Shaq said of Clark’s shooting ability. “There’s a lot of girls in the WNBA that have done it in spurts, but that game I’m watching ya’ll in the Final Four, I’m like ‘Damn.'”
Clark will return to the WNBA court for her second season with the Indiana Fever in 2025.
