Taylor Swift’s presence in NFL stadiums to support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, has caused a wave of negative comments from a sector of the public that has come to hate the singer. For all of them David Letterman has some words of wisdom: “Shut up.”
Kelce and Swift’s romance has dominated the covers of sports newspapers and minutes on game broadcasts. In the stadiums, the cameras try to capture every reaction and gesture of the singer towards her boyfriend’s actions on the field.
A sector of the fans who have felt their space invaded have not hesitated to express their displeasure on their social media, some of them even insulting the performer and composer.
Letterman, for his part, interviewed Swift numerous times on his late-night show and has extensive knowledge when it comes to the entertainment business. In his opinion, the “Bad Blood” singer’s recent interest in the NFL is positive for both parties.
David Letterman’s opinion
In a talk on producer Barbara Gaines’ podcast, Letterman did not hesitate to express his support for the couple, especially for Swift, who has been a constant target of attacks from some football fans.
“This is such a lovely thing,” said the veteran host, “Shut up! It’s good for the footballers. It’s good for Taylor Swift. And it’s something positive and happy for the world.”
The talk was not without its comic moment when Letterman constantly confused Travis Kelce with actor Kelsey Grammer. Nevertheless, the now-retired TV host recalled that Swift is a global phenomenon that fills stadiums around the world and keeps audiences entertained for hours at a time.
Taylor’s impact on the NFL
According to Apex Marketing Group, the mix of Taylor Swift’s brand with the NFL has generated around $331.5 million so far, simply with each mention that pairs the singer with the Kansas City Chiefs, where Kelce plays, or the NFL.
Since the couple’s romance became public this September, Swift has attended 11 games, and the expectation generated just by the speculation about whether or not she will go to the stadium that week generates an unprecedented flow of traffic on social media and mentions in mainstream media.
Right now, the big question is whether she will be present at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to see Kelce and his Chiefs face the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Some sources say yes, but simple speculation is generating unprecedented traffic in all media.
