Simone Biles Explains Emotional Reaction To Jordan Chiles’ Controversial Win

A bit overshadowed by the whole Jordan Chiles controversy during the gymnastics floor final on Monday was the fact that it was actually Simone Biles who bagged the silver medal for that event.
It was Chiles who placed third after her score was changed by the judges following an appeal from USA gymnastics coach Cecile Landy. This resulted in Chiles winning her first individual Olympic medal in what was truly an inspiring moment.
For her part, Biles’ reaction seemed like she was happier to see her teammate win bronze than herself taking the silver medal. Simone admitted that she was overjoyed to see Chiles finally get the recognition she deserved.
“She’s worked so hard for that moment,” Biles told host Hoda Kotb in an interview on the Today Show on Tuesday. “We really put those routines in in training… So just to see how excited Jordan was, and I knew that meant the world to her. I was so happy for her because it’s been a long run and we’ve done this for so long together. Competing again in the Olympic stage is crazy.”
It’s not that Biles isn’t delighted with the fact that she had just won her 11th (!) Olympic medal. She was just more excited about seeing her long-time teammate and friend achieve her biggest dream on the grandest stage.
