Central Texas has seen its share of California-to-Texas transplants and after flirting with Texas, SpaceX owner Elon Musk had the “last straw” with the Golden State. A law that was signed by California Governor Gavin Newsom has sparked the abrupt exit, causing Texas Governor Greg Abbott to celebrate the colossal move to the Lone Star State.

Elon Musk announced on Tuesday, July 16, that SpaceX’s headquarters will no longer be in California.

“This is the final straw,” Musk said in an X post. “Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.”

The Tesla CEO made the announcement after Newsom signed AB1955 on Monday July 15. The law will restrict school districts from creating rules that will require parents to notify the administration if a child identifies as transgender.

In a comment under the post, Musk added, “I did make it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws of this nature would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children.”

Starbase is in Brownsville along with the SpaceX launch facility and tracking station at Boca Chica Beach. MySA reached out to SpaceX to get a comment on the headquarters moving to Texas.

Gov. Abbott loves the move to Texas saying it puts the state in the lead for space travel

“@elonmusk announces the move of SpaceX headquarters to the great state of Texas,” Abbott said in the post. “This cements Texas as the leader in space exploration.”

Musk added to in a quote post that X, the social media company formerly known as Twitter that he owns, will also be relocating to Texas. X will set up headquarters in Austin with Musk writing that he has “had enough of dodging gangs of violent drug addicts just to get in and out of the building.”
