Stephen A Smith Heaps Plenty of Praise on the Boston Celtics
Smith is aware that Boston’s time is drawing near. The Celtics have been agonizingly close to winning a championship under the leadership of Tatum and Brown, but they have not yet been able to raise a banner to celebrate their victory. The previous two years, they were able to make it all the way to the NBA Finals, but they were ultimately defeated by the Golden State Warriors.
When they were playing the eighth-seeded Miami Heat in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals the previous year, they had a complete and utter breakdown at home. The Celtics were demoralized by Miami’s 103-84 victory over them. Smith anticipates that the Celtics will receive Banner 18 in the near future.

“The moment they gave Jaylen Brown over three hundred million dollars, we need to stop talking about is this it for Boston,” Smith told Maxwell and host Josue Pavon on the podcast. “What Boston said to you is Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are going to be here for years to come. Neither is over the age of 27. They got a decade left in their game. They ain’t going anywhere. You know if they gave Jaylen Brown that money, just add another 50 million to Jayson Tatum’s contract.”
Smith stated that other players, such as Kristaps Porzingis or Derrick White, might leave the team at some point in the future; however, Tatum and Brown, who are widely considered to be the best pair in the league, are here to stay for the long haul.
“As long as Tatum and Brown are here to stay, the Boston Celtics are going to contend. Does that mean they’re going to win a championship this year? No. But I’ll tell you this much, I have them as my favorite. There is no team in the NBA that should be able to definitively look at the Boston Celtics and say we’re better.”
Smith Says Only 1 Team Could Be Considered a Favorite Over the Celtics
Although Smith has stated that he believes the Celtics will emerge victorious, he has also stated that the Denver Nuggets, who are the reigning champions, could be regarded a favorite over the Celtics for a particular reason.
Outside of the Denver Nuggets, who are the reigning champions of the National Basketball Association, “nobody should look at the Boston Celtics and view them as an underdog against any single opponent in the NBA,” stated Smith. “The only reason you would do that is because their chemistry is still intact, whereas Boston is still at the stage where they are trying to figure out theirs.”Despite this, Smith is riding with Boston, but he does so with some reservations.
I don’t believe there is any justification for the Boston Celtics to play second fiddle this season, he added. “I don’t think there’s any excuse.” “Could they fall to a Denver team to lose? Certainly. If Philadelphia acquires an additional piece, or if they lose to Milwaukee, what are the chances? Yes, that is feasible.”
By virtue of their 16-5 record, the Celtics have the top record in the Eastern Conference. The only team that behind them is the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have the best record in the NBA with 17.4 points. A homestand consisting of five games is currently being played by the Celtics. Tuesday, December 12 is the day that they will compete against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
