WNBA legend Sue Bird recently shared her thoughts on the narrative surrounding Caitlin Clark. The Seattle Storm legend is one of the best players to lace them up and her voice carries a lot of weight.

She was asked about her opinion on the narrative about veterans trying to bring down Caitlin Clark and ‘hating’ on her.’ The four-time WNBA champion opened up on this situation, blaming social media trolls for blowing up some comments made by another legend, Diana Taurasi.

“The way I would frame it, I think where we’re sitting now is, it’s taken a life of its own that I would credit to internet trolls. I feel like Twitter has taken -obviously, I’m assuming we’re talking about Diana [Taurasi] saying that rookies are gonna need to adjust.

“Somehow that got twisted and turned around and now it’s taken on a life of its own. And there’s this narrative that WNBA players are hating on [Caitlin Clark] and I’m just like, that’s not the case. I just think things have gotten really twisted up,” Bird explained.

When Clark was still in college, Taurasi warned her about the type of opponents she’d face once she landed in the WNBA.

“You look superhuman playing against 18-year-olds,” she said. “But you’re going to come with some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time.”

Taurasi raised a lot of eyebrows ahead of the Indiana Fever vs Phoenix Mercury duel from last week, looking uninterested in giving a detailed answer about her first matchup with Caitlin Clark. Following the match, the approach was different and Taurasi showered the rookie with praise.

Diana Taurasi had great things to say about Caitlin Clark after Fever-Mercury clash

After Clark led the Indiana Fever to a big win over the Mercury last Sunday, including a 15-point comeback, Diana Taurasi had some nice words for the 2024 No. 1 overall pick.

“It’s amazing. What Caitlin’s been able to do in her short career so far has been nothing short of remarkable,” Taurasi said.

“The one thing that I really love about her…she’s put the work in. Even throughout her short WNBA career, it’s been a lot of pressure, a lot of things thrown at her and she keeps showing up and she keeps getting better every single game. So her future is super bright.”

Caitlin Clark keeps getting better by the day and the Fever is counting on her to lead them for many years to come.
