Suni Lee Sends Strong Message To Olympic Judges About Jordan Chiles Decision

Jordan Chiles’ bronze medal victory in the women’s floor gymnastics final at the Paris Olympics has been the biggest storyline in the United States Olympic world for the past week.

As fans and analysts continued to debate Chiles’ position on the Olympic podium, her teammate, Suni Lee, jumped into the conversation.

The United States Olympic Gymnastics Committee released a statement on Chiles’ victory since many fans have been quick to criticize the bronze medalist.

Lee took to social media to support Chiles and it was recently reported that the former UCLA Bruin may be stripped of her bronze medal since the appeal for her score was filed after the one-minute limit.

“All this talk about the athlete, what about the judges?” Lee said. “Completely unacceptable. This is awful and I’m gutted for Jordan [Chiles]. I got your back forever jo, u have all my flowers and you will ALWAYS be an Olympic champion.”

Chiles earned a 13.766 in the floor final, while her closest competitors, Romania’s Ana Maria Barbosu and Sabrina Maneca-Voinea, scored a 13.700 final.

The Romanian party has been vocal about their frustration with the United States’ successful appeal since they believe one of their gymnasts should have medaled in the competition.

Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu even shared his thoughts on the event and released a statement regarding the judge’s decision to appeal in favor of Chiles just after Barbosu was listed as the bronze medal winner on the big board.

“I decided not to attend the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics following the scandalous situation in the gymnastics, where our athletes were treated in an absolutely dishonorable manner,” Ciolacu said. “To withdraw a medal earned for honest work on the basis of an appeal … is totally unacceptable!”

While Chiles may be stripped of her bronze medal, it seems the United States Gymnastics committee and her teammates, most notably Suni Lee, are right by her side throughout the process.
