A year after he took his chance and missed, Taylor Swift fans celebrated the anniversary of Travis Kelce ‘shooting his shot’ with the pop star and praised his persistence.
On July 26, 2023, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end revealed on an episode of the New Heights podcast that he tried to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.
While that effort was one of the few times he did not succeed at Arrowhead Stadium, the pair and their fairytale romance would later dominate headlines, which they continue to do today. As a result, Swifties took to X to commend his bravery.
‘Forever thankful for friendship bracelet, New Heights and Jason [Kelce] being an inquisitive big brother,’ on user wrote.
‘Travis Kelce got Taylor Swift’s attention one year ago today,’ another wrote. ‘The rest is history.’

A third referred to their story as a ‘real life romantic comedy.’
Meanwhile, a fourth quipped ‘Well Travis, you knew what you wanted and boy, you got her.’
Before Kelce, Swift dated actor Joe Alwyn for six years. Three months after their split, Swift played a concert in Kansas City, where the Chiefs tight end attempted to reach her to no avail.
Once Kelce took to his chart-topping podcast and admitted defeat, he eventually got Swift’s attention.
‘I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings,’ Kelce said then.

When Jason tried to clarify whether his sibling was referring to his phone or jersey number, Travis replied: ‘You know which one.’
‘She doesn’t meet anybody — or at least she didn’t want to meet me. So, I took it personal,’ the three-time Super Bowl winner added.
Swift later admitted that they went on several dates under the radar before hard launching at a Chiefs-Bears game in September.
‘We started hanging out right after [the podcast episode],’ Swift said in the interview.
‘We actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other,’ she clarified. ‘I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.’
