The lyrics to the song, which hit 81 on the Billboard Hot 100, include the phrase “Playas, they gonna play and haters, they gonna hate.”

Swift’s 2014 smash hit features the chorus: “‘Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play.

“And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.

“Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off.”

Hall and Butler are arguing that 20 per cent of Swift’s hit is their song, reports TMZ.

Over their careers Butler has worked with the Backstreet Boys, Christina Milian, Aaron Carter and Victoria Beckham, and Hall with Justin Bieber, Lionel Richie, Pink and Maroon 5.

A representative for Swift responded to the claims saying: “This is a ridiculous claim and nothing more than a money grab. The law is simple and clear. They do not have a case.”

This is not the first time Taylor Swift has faced legal action over Shake It Off.

In 2015 another RnB singer claimed she had ripped of his 2013 track.

Jesse Braham demanded $42 million from the star saying she had stolen the same phrases from his song Haters Gone Hate.

The chorus features the line: “Haters gone hate, playas gone play. Watch out for them fakers, they’ll fake you everyday.”

At the time he told the New York Daily News: “Her hook is the same hook as mine.

“If I didn’t write the song ‘Haters Gone Hate,’ there wouldn’t be a song called ‘Shake It Off’.”

Brahams’s lawsuit was thrown out of court due to US copyright laws.
