Fans of the show also flocked to Twitter to express their annoyance that the humble 23-year-old wasn’t afforded a golden buzzer – which automatically grants an act a place in the Semi-Finals.

It’s eleven years since the songstress applied to go on Britain’s Got Talent, and defied the odds by bringing the house down in a way that no other reality show contestant has done since.

She became one of TV’s biggest ever success stories when she belted out I Dreamed A Dream on the show and has performed around the world.

Meanwhile, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house on Britain’s Got Talent on Saturday night, when a shy dad in the audience was surprised by his two young daughters.

Unsuspecting contestant Nick Edwards was shocked when his mum and young daughters appeared on stage, to get him to audition.

‘Are you joking? That’s my mum,’ he was heard saying in the audience.

After some encouragement, a reluctant Nick, 35, made his way to the stage, where he explained he had lost confidence in his singing, and hid his talent.

He told the judges: ‘Hopefully I’ll keep the nerves and crying away while I do this.’

After being given time to prepare, the dad performed a moving song dedicated to his daughters, with the performance leaving everyone in tears.

Declan Donnelly was so overcome by emotion that he needed a minute to pull himself together.

However, the performance got off to a scary start when they fell from the ramp, causing medics to rush on stage for assistance.

Luckily, the lad recovered well to perform with his pals, with the quartet earning four yeses from the judges.
