Nonetheless, the narrative takes a distinct turn when it shifts our gaze to the renowned director Ridley Scott, a multiple Oscar nominee. For the 85-year-old, success extends far beyond the land of mere box office statistics.

Ridley Scott’s Genuine Sentiments Regarding Top Gun 2 Revealed

Ridley Scott, a distinguished filmmaker boasting numerous Oscar nominations unveiled his unfiltered sentiments about the much-talked-about blockbuster, Top Gun 2.

This revelation comes in the wake of producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s assertion that he found favor with the sequel. Back in 1986, the original Top Gun, directed by the late Tony Scott, introduced audiences to the charismatic Tom Cruise in the role of the daring pilot, Pete ‘Maverick Mitchell.

Nearly four decades later, Cruise reprised his iconic role in Top Gun: Maverick, a box office juggernaut under Joseph Kosinski’s direction.

The numbers speak for themselves, with the film amassing an impressive $1.496 billion worldwide. Securing its place as the second-highest-grossing film of 2022 and Cruise’s most lucrative project to date.

However, Scott, the acclaimed director behind Blade Runner, remains unfazed. In a recent interview with Variety, director Fede Alvarez revealed Scott’s perspective on Top Gun: Maverick was concise with “meh.” He explained,
“I asked him about the new Top Gun and he’s like, meh. I’m like, What are you talking about? And he was like, My brother’s was original, and this is like, eh. He really respected it, but you could see how tough he was. So I was like, There’s no way I win this one.”

He expressed deep respect for the film while highlighting his preference for the original, acknowledging the tough act of living up to his brother Tony’s legacy.

Yet, this isn’t the full extent of Scott’s involvement. Alvarez, the director of an upcoming Alien movie, also revealed that Scott has shared his notes on the Alien franchise, showcasing a continued commitment to cinematic craftsmanship that transcends mere box office success.

In the vast world of iconic science fiction, the Alien franchise commands respect, with Scott, its visionary creator, maintaining a profound influence. The 45-year-old, at the helm of a new film Alien: Romulus, eagerly sought Scott’s input, and it appears that their exchange was nothing short of remarkable.

During the DGA Latino Summit 2023, Alvarez, in conversation with director Guillermo del Toro, shed light on this intriguing collaboration.

The anticipation was palpable, as the filmmaker, well aware of Scott’s uncompromising nature, wanted the maestro to be the first to witness his work. Scott, historically known for his exacting standards, had even scrutinized Blade Runner 2049 meticulously.

Alvarez’s project, a standalone venture with Hulu slated for a 2024 premiere, was a subject of concern, but Alvarez was resolute in receiving Scott’s feedback face-to-face. The Evil Dead director said,
“Even if he didn’t ask for it, I was gonna go there and sit at a table and look at him and get it. Even if he was gonna say, You destroyed my legacy, I wanted to be in front of him and see him in the eye. I didn’t want to get an email where it says Ridley says.”
In a delightful twist, it transpired that Scott was genuinely pleased with Alvarez’s interpretation of the Alien franchise.

This convergence of the screenwriter’s horror expertise and Scott’s creative insight promises an exciting cinematic journey, a treat for fans and film enthusiasts.
