Swifties have followed Taylor Swift‘s romantic escapades for years because, well… how could you not? She’s made her relationships a part of her artistry, with fans gaining insight into each man she dated through her lyrics. The moment Travis Kelce entered the picture, things felt different to everyone. He was the opposite of the type of man she usually dated, and the NFL star seemed to roll with every curveball thrown at him — hey, that’s the life of dating an uber-famous celebrity.

Their relationship has been tested over and over again with her demanding Eras Tour taking her all over the globe, and his heavy Kansas City Chiefs football schedule that led to a Super Bowl win in February. Typically, A-list stars who couple up, crash and burn quickly, but not Swift and Kelce. A People insider shared that it’s because “they have so much fun together,” even though their friends originally “wondered what they had in common, but [now] realize how similar they are.”

What are the similarities between a pop star and a football player? Well, it comes down to priorities. “They both wear their hearts on their sleeves and are all-in with everything they do, whether it’s with career, family or friends,” added the source. For Kelce, that means making sweeping “romantic gestures to show he’s thinking of her when they’re apart.” He’s committed to seeing as many shows as possible ahead of reporting to training camp on July 21. For Swift, that means trying “to attend as many games as possible” when the Eras Tour takes a break in September and October.

Back in December, Kelce made plans for Swift’s Italy stop so her downtime from the tour could be special for the two of them. “He booked some very nice hotel suites and tables at great restaurants to take her on days off,” a source explained to The U.S. Sun. “He wants to take her on romantic getaways to have her relax and go discover those nice cities and European romantic places together.” We have a feeling their Lake Como boat ride was something the 34-year-old tight end booked way ahead of time, he wanted to make sure his lady enjoyed every moment of her time away from the stage.

It’s hard to believe there was ever a world without Swift and Kelce together since they’ve dominated the headlines for so long, but they are just hitting the one-year mark this summer. We aren’t going to pressure them with the engagement talk, but we are thrilled that this “relationship feels different for both of them.”
