Angel Reese’s WNBA record is ‘MADE UP,’ claims Jason Whitlock: ‘This has never been a standard in the NBA’

Jason Whitlock criticized Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese in a bizarre rant about her recent WNBA record.

The 22-year-old became the first player in the history of the league to put up 10 consecutive double-doubles in a single season, surpassing future Hall of Famer Candace Parker’s record nine double-doubles in 2015.

Despite the accomplishment, the controversial podcast host claimed the record was ‘made up’ because it’s not a ‘standard’ metric in the NBA.

Angel Reese’s most consecutive double-double WNBA record is just made up,’ he said on an episode of his Fearless podcast on Tuesday.

‘No one knows who had the previous record. This has never been a standard in the NBA. Guys average a double-double,’ he added.

Social media users were quick to slam the shock jock, with many pointing out that the knew Parker held the record.

‘Uhhh it was Candace Parker? Get outta here Whitlock,’ one person wrote.

Reese’s impressive feat came less than 20 games into her WNBA career, after she finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds during her team’s 70-62 loss to the Minnesota Lynx Sunday evening.

It initially looked like Reese would fall short of double points, however, on the Sky’s final offensive possession, she was fouled and went to the line.

Although she missed the first free throw, the second shot brought her total up to 10 points, and the crowd went wild as her mother looked on emotionally.

‘She knows what she does best,’ Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon told reporters earlier in the week.

’20 games into her WNBA career, and Caitlin Clark is just too easy to defend,’ he wrote on X

‘The one thing about her is that she is incredibly hard on herself. As far as rebounding the ball, we knew that would translate over [from college]. And she’s getting a better understanding of how to score around the rim. She’s learning and she’s learning fast.’

Not only has Reese been making headlines for her skills on the court, but also for the drama surrounding her long-running rivalry with fellow rookie, Caitlin Clark.

The former Iowa superstar has also attracted criticism from Whitlock, who previously posited a theory about why she’s struggled at times during her very young WNBA career.

’20 games into her WNBA career, and Caitlin Clark is just too easy to defend,’ he wrote on X over the weekend.

‘She takes virtually no easy shots because she doesn’t hunt them. Love her playmaking. But constantly launching difficult 27-footers won’t work.’

Many of Whitlock’s followers agreed with his take, and offered their own thoughts on how the 22-year-old was adapting to the league after a stellar college career.

‘Caitlin Clark does a phenomenal job getting her teammates easy looks, but her teammates don’t know how to help her get an easy shot. She will evolve, she definitely needs to be more aggressive with her attacking and attempts,’ one fan tweeted.

‘I think she’s exhausted from the long college season and then right into the crazy schedule of the WNBA,’ another suggested.
