The Princess of Wales has previously recalled an awkward experience with her dad Michael Middleton while at Wimbledon, the prestigious tennis competition

Kate Middleton is a regular Wimbledon attendee – although the Princess of Wales may not be able to attend at all this year as she receives treatment following her cancer diagnosis.

However she was left “mortified” following a two-word remark from a close relative. The princess, who is a huge tennis fan, has previously recalled an awkward experience with her dad Michael Middleton while at the prestigious tennis competition. It has not been confirmed whether she will be in attendance this year due to her ongoing cancer treatment but her parents Carole and Michael and sister Pippa are known to be regulars at the tournament. However, back in 2017, Kate spoke of the time she was in attendance with her dad when the pair crossed paths with former British number one tennis player Tim Henman

She told the BBC documentary Our Wimbledon hosted by Sue Barker: “My father is not going to appreciate this, but we were walking past Tim Henman and we had just seen Pete Sampras play. My dad said very coolly: ‘Hi Pete’. I was mortified!” The mum-of-three has been a patron of All England Club since 2016 and traditionally presents trophies to the Wimbledon champions.
According to All England Club chair Debbie Jevans, they haven’t ruled out Kate from appearing as organisers said they are “staying flexible” over who will conduct the trophy presentation if she is unable to attend. Debbie told Telegraph Sport : “We’re hopeful that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as the Club’s patron, but her health and recovery is the priority. We don’t know what we don’t know. All we’ve said is that we’ll work with her and give her as much flexibility as possible.
