Things got feisty at the Houston Texans’ training camp session on Wednesday.
A scuffle began after new Houston Texans star wide receiver Stefon Diggs was hit hard by safety Jimmie Ward. Soon after, star cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. ran over to Dalton Schultz and leveled the veteran tight end with a crushing hit that sent him to the ground:
Most Texans players quickly rushed over to break up the scuffle before things escalated further. But yes, it certainly looks like the players have entered competitive mode and are more than ready for the regular season to begin.
Per John Harris of the team’s official website, running back Dare Ogunbowale emphasized that the scuffle was nothing serious and that “it’s all love at the end of the day.”
The Texans acquired Diggs in a blockbuster trade with the Buffalo Bills, who decided to move on following rumors that the Pro Bowl wideout was too much of an issue in their locker room.
Diggs joins a Houston offense that also traded for ex-Cincinnati Bengals star and four-time 1,000-yard rusher Joe Mixon. They arrive on a Houston offense that already has the aforementioned Schultz, a rising superstar at QB in CJ Stroud and two young stud receivers in Nico Collins and Tank Dell.
The Texans will begin their 2024 season with a road contest against the AFC South rival Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 8.
Houston Texans Look To Build Off Successful 2024 Season
The Texans were expected to be among football’s worst teams in 2023, winning only 11 total games over the 2020 to ’22 seasons. Growing pains felt inevitable for Stroud and rookie head coach DeMeco Ryans, given all of the question marks on this roster.
But it all came together quickly for Houston. Stroud had one of the greatest rookie QB seasons ever. Dell and Collins formed one of football’s best receiving duos, and the young defense led by Stingley Jr. and Will Anderson Jr. improved much sooner than expected.
With Diggs, Mixon and Danielle Hunter coming aboard, there’s no telling just how much better Houston could be in 2024.
