Serena Williams took a shot at Harrison Butker during Thursday night’s ESPY Awards.

The tennis icon was the talk of the ceremony after what many consider to be a witty remark, having taken to the stage at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles alongside her sister Venus.

She elicited laughter from the audience after taking a jab at the Kansas City Chiefs kicker over his recent comments about women in the workplace.

Venus and Serena took to the stage with Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson, where they spoke about women’s sports.

“So, go ahead and enjoy women’s sports like you would any other sports, because they are sports,” Venus said.

Serena took the opportunity to take a swipe at Butker.

“Except you, Harrison Butker,” she quipped. “We don’t need you.”

Harrison Butker Has Refused To Walk Back His Comments

The Chiefs kicker rubbed plenty of women the wrong way with a speech given during a commencement ceremony at Benedictine College earlier this year.

While many sided with him, Butker received considerable flak for encouraging women to embrace their roles as homemakers, suggesting it was their highest calling.

He refused to back down, however.

“If it wasn’t clear that the timeless Catholic values are hated by many, it is now,” he said after shaking the nation up with his initial speech. “Over the past few days, my beliefs, or what people think I believe, have been the focus of countless discussions around the globe.”

“In my seven years in the NFL, I’ve become familiar with positive and negative comments. But the majority of them revolve around my performance on the field. But, as to be expected, the more I’ve talked about what I value most, my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I’ve become. It’s a decision I’ve consciously made, and one I do not regret at all.”

The Chiefs didn’t pay any attention to the people asking for the player to be cut, although he could have a reduced role next season as the team isn’t so keen on him getting tackled.
