It is slated for release on streaming platform iQiyi sometime next year.

The new edition of the classic show is being produced by Chinese companies iQiyi and Changxin Pictures, as well as Singapore’s G.H.Y Culture & Media. It stars, among others, Chinese actors Li Yuanbing, Ji Ning, Zhang Liming, Tu Lin and Fang Chengcheng, as well as Singapore’s own Xiang Yun and Jeffrey Xu.

The blockbuster original series, which aired on Mediacorp’s Channel 8 in 2008, was a period drama that followed the fortunes of an extended Peranakan family over the span of 70 years. The remake, which will be penned by the same writer as the original, will likely be a more developed version of the story.
