Bill Maher is an American comedian and writer who is well known for his political satire and has amused people for years. He had a popular late-night show called ‘Politically Incorrect’ that ran from 1993 to 2002 and is now seen on ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ that started back in 2003.

There have been several popular guests on his show, but in 1999, in one of the episodes of Politically Incorrect with Pro Wrestlers. The show features several WCW stars, including Bobby Heenan, Roddy Piper, Sting, and Medusa.

During the interview, Maher teasingly made a statement about wrestling being “fake” and said, “Today’s audience watch wrestling and they are “in on the joke” that’s not an insult”. He then asked them if they were hitting each other with chairs for real.

 

To which Sting replied that the sound of a chair hitting your back is not fake. He explained that the risk and pain were very real. But Maher disagrees and says, “There aren’t any bruises on any of you,” which is enough to rub Rowdy Piper in the wrong way.

It was at this point that Ronda Rousey’s idol, Rowdy Piper, lost his cool, stood up, stripped down his pants to show his metal hip to everyone, and said, “Metal hip, broken wrist. See that wrist? Seven years, it’s been broken. Owen Hart [is] dead. Why don’t you go tell Mrs. Hart what a joke it is, huh?” The outrage from the WWE Hall of Famer made Maher seem dumbstruck and in awe.

Again, in the same interview, Bill mocked Roddy, saying that he doesn’t need to drop his pants in front of other men, to which Roddy Piper replied savagely, “Okay, well, how’d you get the job?” The audience loved Piper for this, and everyone erupted in laughter.

Is Ronda Rousey related to Roddy Piper?

Ronda Rousey is one of the most famous sportswomen on the planet. She is well known for her time in the UFC and held the title of Women’s Bantamweight Champion before joining WWE. On her first appearance in the Triple-H-led promotion, Ronda wore a jacket owned by Roddy Piper. This was brought to her by the son of Roddy Piper himself, and she dubbed herself ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey. This made fans question if she was related to the WWE legend.

However, Ronda does not share any blood relations with Roddy Piper, but she has trained with Roddy’s daughter, Teal Piper. In an interview on A&E, Ronda explained how she always idolized Rowdy Piper. She said, “I studied “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, and, like nonstop, just the way that he spoke and how he would go off on these tangents and his delivery”.

Rousey added further, “He didn’t try to fit into what was the idea of a heel. He created the best heel that he could be himself. I’m very much inspired by him.” She has hailed Roddy as her wrestling hero since she was young and wanted to become like him.

Ronda Rousey has a special bond with Roddy Piper and has honored his name in the ring. The whole family of Roddy has congratulated Rousey and is very happy about her inheriting the ‘Rowdy’ legacy. Ronda is currently released from the company in October 2023. However, she made her shocking debut on Ring of Honor in November 2023. With that, it is still to be seen if she makes her return to the Stamford-based promotion.
