Earlier this season, Pat McAfee used some choice words when talking about Caitlin Clark. During the ESPY’s Thursday night, one female sports icon seemed to take a jab at the longtime NFL punter.

During the award ceremony, Venus and Serena Williams shared the stage with actress Quinta Brunson. They discussed the growing popularity of women’s sports and the conversation shifted to what fans can call players. While running down the list, Serena referenced a word McAfee used to describe Clark earlier this year.

“Just don’t use the b-word,” Serena said. “You know who you are.”

Caitlin Clark ended up hearing her name called multiple times during Thursday’s ESPYs. Along with winning the best college athlete in women’s sports, she also took home the best record-breaking performance.

Clark won this award for setting the scoring record in D1 history at Iowa. She beca,e the first woman to take home this honor.

Now in the WNBA, Clark continues to put together eye-popping performances. She recently posted a historic stat line against the Washington Mystics and became the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double.

What did Pat McAfee say about Caitlin Clark that led to response from Serena Williams?

The comments Serena Williams referenced came from Pat McAfee on his show a little over a month ago. While talking about the WNBA’s rookie class, he focused on the Caitlin Clark hype and described her as a “white b***h”.

McAfee’s intentions were seemingly not to deride Clark but instead to praise her for her play. The former Indianapolis Colts punter just used the wrong words.

“Just call it for what it is. There’s one white b**** for the Indiana team who is a superstar,” McAfee said.

While Caitlin Clark has lived up to the hype upon entering the WNBA, McAfee is slightly looking over the rest of the 2024 class. There have been multiple standout performers who have also helped with the growing popularity of the league.

The best rookie this season besides Clark has been Angel Reese. Two weeks ago, the two were named to the All-Star team together in just their first year as pros. Cameron Brink is another rookie who deserves a shoutout. She was an impressive two-way force before going down to a season-ending injury.
