According to a Nevada sheriff’s office incident report, actor Jeremy Renner was attempting to prevent his snow-removal tractor from sliding and hitting his grown nephew when he was pulled under the vehicle and crushed on New Year’s Day.

“The Pistenbully snow groomer began sliding causing Renner to exit the vehicle without setting the emergency brake,” reads the conclusion of the report obtained through a public records request, per CNN.

The incident occurred when Renner towed his nephew’s truck off his driveway after it got stuck in the snow. While hospitalized, Renner told investigators on January 5 about the events that transpired. After successfully moving the truck onto the street, the snowplow started “sliding sideways” and eventually “began to roll down the hill.” Renner decided to jump out of the snowcat at that point, according to his statement.
