Harry & Meghan aired on Netflix in December 2022 – and King Charles made a scathing assessment of his youngest son in the aftermath of the six-part reality show
Prince Harry’s repeated attacks on the royals have resulted in a breakdown in his relationship with his family. And it seems that one move in particular really irked his father, King Charles.
At the end of 2022, Netflix aired its six part docuseries Harry & Meghan, which saw the couple air further grievances. Bombshells included Meghan’s “jarring” first meeting with William and Kate, the suggestion that the senior royals were “jealous” of Meghan’s popularity, how William had created a ‘wedge’ between the brothers, and claims of ‘institutional gaslighting’ by the Palace.
It all proved too much for his father, according to Endgame author Omid Scobie. He wrote that the King was far from happy with Harry following the release of the show, writing: “At the Palace, heads were in hands and migraines were brewing.” Quoting an aide talking about Charles, the author wrote: “(He) went from not wanting anyone to talk about his son to openly criticising ‘that fool’.” At the time of its release, the series was said to have been – unsurprisingly – an uncomfortable watch for the entire Royal Family.
It’s not just his family that have been upset by Harry. According to royal expert Tom Quinn, his friends are also “avoiding him”. He told the Mirror: “Harry has a few friends from the army and from his days at school, but they are a part of the old pre-Meghan world that Harry hates to revisit.
“His military friends feel he has betrayed them by writing about his military service in such an un-military way and his old Etonian friends don’t like the new ‘woke’ Harry. Conservative with both a small and a big C, they see the new Harry as a tree-hugger with whom they have nothing in common.”
Prince Harry revealed in his memoirs for the first time that he killed 25 Taliban fighters in Afghanistan, likening them to “chess pieces taken off the board”. His wrote: “It wasn’t a statistic that filled me with pride but nor did it make me ashamed. When I was plunged into the heat and confusion of battle, I didn’t think about those as 25 people.”
