Open Residencies
Why there are no open roles yet, and how to register interest.Last updated: Oct 1, 2026
TIN 356 has no open roles, salaries or hiring plans to announce. We are a launch-edition publication, and we prefer to say that clearly rather than post vague listings. This page describes the kinds of contributors we might one day host and how to introduce yourself in the meantime.
What a residency could mean
We use the word residency for a short, defined period in which a contributor works with the desk on a specific project. It is an idea, not a programme. If and when we run any, we will publish the details here: the work, the time commitment, how people are chosen and what, if anything, is paid. Until then, nothing on this page is an offer of work or a promise of compensation.
Roles we may need in future
- Writers and reporters with a strong grip on one of our five desks.
- Editors who can sharpen a draft and keep a standard consistent.
- Audio producers to help shape the planned Audio Dispatch.
- Illustrators and designers who can make original artwork for stories.
- Developers to maintain the site, newsletter and accessibility.
- Fact-checkers and copy editors, who protect readers from our own mistakes.
How to introduce yourself
Send a short email to [email protected], a placeholder address for the launch edition, with the subject line "Introduction". Tell us who you are, what you do and what you would like to contribute. Include links to work you are proud of, and say whether you are available for a one-off project or something longer. Keep it under two hundred words.
What to expect
We will read what you send and keep it on file. We may not reply, because we have no open positions, and we would rather not raise hopes. If an opportunity does appear that fits your background, we will contact you. We will not share your details with outside parties.
Our principles for working with people
- We will describe any role honestly, including pay, if there is any.
- We will not ask for unpaid work disguised as a trial.
- We will credit contributors by name, with their consent.
- We will treat applicants respectfully, including those we cannot hire.
Prefer to pitch?
If you have a story rather than a career question, use the Submit a Story page instead. It explains how to pitch, what we look for and what to expect.
